The House & Gardens
Ugbrooke House stands foursquare and strong in the centre of the parkland. The house has a fascinating history covering 900 years, featuring in the Domesday book of 1086. It exhibits a variety of alterations made over the centuries, particularly the alterations made by Robert Adam when he and Capability Brown were commissioned to remodel the house, grounds and garden in the mid 18th century.
Outstanding Adam interiors and unique external features remain, while Lady Clifford’s extensive interior design skills are apparent throughout.
From the Cardinal’s Room to the Duchess of Norfolk’s Room, from the Bahamas to the Chinese Room; whichever of the fourteen guest rooms you stay in, you’ll appreciate the mixture of tradition and grandeur together with the luxury of every modern comfort.
The House contains many fine paintings, furniture, beautiful needlework and ceramics. But above all, Ugbrooke remains the comfortable private home of the Clifford family who are delighted and privileged to be able to share the house’s history and welcoming ambience.
