As the eldest son of the 14th Lord Clifford, Alexander has been preparing to take on the excitement and challenges of running the family shoot since he first picked up a gun at the tender age of seven years old. He remembers well pacing the halls as a boy learning the words to the poem “A Father’s Advice…” before his father would permit him to fire his first cartridge.
After five years in Australia, he returned to Ugbrooke Park, the family seat, to take over reins from his Father.
Alan Easterbrook, Gamekeeper
The gamekeeper of 50 years, Alan Easterbrook, really is the essence of the Ugbrooke shoot. Alan has been a finalist in the Farmers Weekly Gamekeeper of the Year twice and in 2014 received a two long service awards at the CLA Game Fair. Gamekeeping is in Alan’s blood; his father was underkeeper at Luscombe for the Hoare family. Alexander is the third generation of Clifford’s that Alan has worked with. He was first employed by Alexander’s Grandfather when they would only shoot 25 birds in a day so it is a testament to his spirit and energy that Ugbrooke can now offer the bags that we do. He takes enormous pride in presenting the birds over the guns and meticulously plans bird rearing and cover crops over the estate. Although unusual to offer duck on the same drive as pheasant, Alan has developed a system to provide high, sporting duck. The ducks are fed at the top ponds and game crops, then on a shoot day they come off the high ponds and head back home to the lakes or ponds on the other side of the valley.
Alex Penman, Butler
We are incredibly fortunate to have lured Alex south from a castle and grouse moor in Scotland, promising him some warmer weather and an opportunity to work alongside his wife, Tiina. Together they have successfully run restaurants and hotels, as well as running his own chauffeur business in London working with high profile business executives and VIPs. As a result, any challenge is “nae bother” as Alex deals with every situation efficiently and discreetly. He has a passion for history, especially World War I as a former military man himself, and has travelled to the Somme and Gallipoli to learn more about those historic battles. He is an ever hopeful Scottish rugby fan, and a keen shot.

Meredith Harvey, Estate Administrator
Meredith has been at Ugbrooke for over eleven years, working previously for Lord Clifford, and now for The Honourable Alexander as the Estate Administrator. There is little happening at Ugbrooke Park that Meredith doesn’t know about; everything from shooting in the winter to private groups in the summer to commercial developments elsewhere on the estate. Outside of work, Meredith, together with her husband and two sons, run a dairy farm which keeps everyone very busy.
Donna Roberts-Cossey, Estate Secretary
As Estate Secretary, Donna will be your main point of contact in organising your stay at Ugbrooke Park. Aside from working full time, Donna is married with four children, five horses, volunteers in the community and goodness knows what else! So best of luck trying to faze her; no challenge is too great or question too small. Donna will be able to organise all your booking and logistical needs from gun hire and licensing to transport and any other requirements you may have to make your experience seamless. Incredibly efficient and practical, if she doesn’t have a solution, she will find one!
Ron Easterbrook, Underkeeper
Alan’s son, Ron, has worked at his Father’s side all his life, officially joining the team in 2016. Ron is a tremendous worker whose passion for the estate and the birds is very evident; he is a real countryman. Alan and Ron are also helped by their loyal band of willing volunteers, known as the ‘Dad’s Army’.
The Gentlemen Loaders
Ugbrooke Park has been blessed with a dedicated team of Gentlemen Loaders, some of whom have been returning for more than twenty five years. As such, the Loaders know exactly how the shoot is run and all the nuances to each drive to ensure you are well prepared for your next shot. There to act as your personal assistant, your helpful estate guide, your safety patroller, and your diplomatic encourager, our loaders are quick with the witty banter, and with the sausage rolls! The team all come from very different walks of life; local businessmen and farmers to retirees and even a county judge, united by a love of shooting. This incredibly experienced group join us every season on a completely voluntary basis and ensure you enjoy every moment on your peg.
